The Mustang Shelby GT500 has always been the king of the street, the drag strip, and the track. It has always put down power like any car before it. It is one Mustang that is street legal that strikes fear to all corners wherever it roams.
The story continues with an all-new 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 – the most powerful street-legal Ford has ever made.
The reason for this claim lies underneath the hood. The hand-built 5.2-liter flat-plane crankshaft supercharged V8 has been engineered for maximum power. It is rated at 760HP. To ensure proper boost and recovery, a 2.65-liter roots-type supercharger is connected to an air-to-liquid intercooler neatly tucked away in the engine bay.
To match the power from this engine, Tremec provided a 7-speed dual clutch transmission designed to meet the V8’s horsepower and torque requirements. To manage this kind of power, this transmission is designed to make it easy for the driver to use the paddle shifters to fine tune each gear to every condition.
Ford says the Shelby GT500 is capable of mid-three-second times from 0-60 MPH. It also capable of sub-11 second quarter mile scores.
Further enhancements to the Shelby GT500 include a carbon fiber driveshaft, revised suspension geometry, lightweight coil springs, a next generation MagnaRide system, Brembo brakes, and an electronic power steering system. Michelin provides custom-fitted Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires for maximum grip on the tarmac.
This is more than just your average Mustang underneath its skin. Yet, it has to look the part. The larger grille area allows for maximum airflow into the engine bay through its double grille embedded to the front clip. In fact, the combination of the new front clip, the rear spoiler, and other aerodynamic aids around the GT500 is all designed to create downforce to keep this Mustang planted on the road, the track, and the drag strip.
The Shelby GT500 is not all about performance all the time. The interior will feature the 12-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, a custom-tuned 12-speaker B&O Play audio system powered by an 8-inch touchscreen driven by SYNC3 and FordPass Connect Wi-Fi.
